The challenge

Innovative drying solution for petrochemical shutdown

Our client is a specialist in the drying of petrochemical units. They needed to provide an innovative solution for scraping and drying operations during the planned shutdown of the alkylation unit at a refinery. The shutdown required effective drying and inerting of the unit’s lines and capacities within the operational deadlines.
Successful completion of the operation was essential. Draining the remaining water from the pipes and capacities is a very important step to limit corrosion and leakage risks of the alkylation unit, during the 7-year operational cycle.
The idea was to offer a solution that would reduce operating costs and environmental impacts compared to traditional techniques, while ensuring superior efficiency

The solution

Efficient and eco-eriendly innovations for operations

We started by analysing the client’s technical requirements, providing a detailed study and a comprehensive solution including technical expertise, necessary equipment, and deployment according to the established schedule. 

Thanks to meticulous coordinated preparation, including scope meetings and on-site tests, our specialists designed a bespoke system. This comprised a 100% oilfree air compressor of 45 m³/min at 7 barg, an air dryer capable of achieving a dew point below -18°C and all accessories for regulating the various stages of drying.  

These two pieces of equipment are tailored to the European industry and are designed to offer energy savings. They are easily transportable due to their protective chassis and their ISO 20-foot certified CSC container, ensuring quick installation and minimal disruptions. To deliver vital energy savings, optimal performance, and adequate air temperatures for our rental equipment, our compressors are equipped with Variable Speed Drives (VSD), adsorption air dryers, and integrated air coolers. 

Installation and commissioning were completed within three days, in accordance with the established schedule, with no delays. 

This innovative approach highlighted our CSR approach as a “Class 0” compressed air supplier for drying applications in the petrochemical industry. Demonstrating our commitment to providing highperformance solutions focused on energy savings.

The impact

Significant cost savings and CO2 reduction

Our support and technical solution enabled our client to carry out drying operations within the agreed timeframe.

Reducing the overall cost of the service by €20k and saving 44 tonnes of CO2 emissions compared with conventional techniques.

By showcasing our ability to provide sustainable, resultsoriented solutions, we are proud to have set a precedent for future collaborations in Europe’s refining and petrochemical sector.

New investments mean we have expanded our equipment fleet with new compressors, reaffirming our role as a key partner during major shutdowns.
