Contingency planning helps organisations prepare for disruption before it happens, reducing the impact of events such as equipment failure, power outages, extreme weather or temperature control issues.

What is contingency planning?
Also known as a business continuity plan, it is a formal process for preparing for events that could disrupt a project, site or ongoing operation. A strong plan helps a company stay operational during disruption, protecting revenue, safety and customer confidence.
For businesses that depend on power, heating, refrigeration, cooling or ventilation, contingency planning helps protect against hazards that could damage productivity, perishables, equipment or critical environments.
For example, a company handling frozen or chilled goods could face significant product loss if refrigeration or power systems fail unexpectedly. What can happen without a contingency plan?
Without a practical contingency plan in place, businesses are often forced to make critical decisions under pressure. That can lead to delays, higher costs and avoidable operational risk.
A site may not know which systems need to be prioritised. Connection points may not be available or suitable. Access routes may not be ready for larger temporary equipment. There may be no agreed fuel plan, no confirmed escalation route and no clear understanding of how quickly power, cooling or heating needs to be restored.
