The Challenge

To combat 90% humidity and high temperatures for media attending an international business summit

The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is a summit involving the world leader of Australasia, where they convene to discuss important matters that impact everyone in that part of the world.

In 2018, the APEC conference was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Guaranteeing that this important summit is covered by the worlds media is crucial. Providing the ideal environment for these crucial talks is imperative.

Being situated in Papua New Guinea means 90% humidity and temperatures averaging around 28-32°C. The building that would house the entire media function had no air conditioning and would soon welcome more than 400 media personnel.

The organisers required a partner who could provide the necessary reliable cooling and power that the summit demanded.

Project Fact File

of chilled air 3100kWr
Humidity 30%

This was a challenging project due to the environmental factors and the tight deadline. However, our team of expert technicians and engineers were up to the task and the event went off without a hitch. The media personnel were very grateful for the protection our turnkey solution provided from the heat and humidity.

The Solution

Leveraging our global fleet to deliver a turnkey power and cooling solution

Our global fleet and modular equipment mean Aggreko is always ideally placed to fit the bill, and this summit was no different.

With the level of cooling needed, we delivered our products from Australia, and experts from New Zealand to commission and support the project during the event.

With so much equipment needed, there was plenty of ancillaries needed to complete the bespoke package, which we supplied.

We took care of everything, so the media could keep the public informed.

The Impact

Millions given access to crucial meetings that forge international progress

The organisers were impressed with our ability to deliver and deploy withing the desired deadlines. Despite funding for the project not going ahead at the last minute, therefore leaving precious little leeway for time, we secured the necessary fleet, installed and tested everything just days before the event went live.

The result? The vital links being forged between nations were aired to the millions of people concerned.
