Delivering essential power in an emergency for offshore vessel

A broken generator on-board one of Jumbo’s vessels could have been very detrimental to their offshore activities. Unable to progress with their projects, they’d have potentially been liable for costly delays and penalties for not completing to agreed timescales. 

Jumbo challenged us to provide around 2000 kVA at 690V – fast. Our renewable energy specialists had just days to deliver a solution, from initial contact to product specification and project management. 

Challenge accepted. 

There was no time to lose. Our team of experts got started straightaway, working closely with Jumbo to understand more about the challenge: powering a large crane and all the crew accommodation. Because of the peak loads, a hybrid generator and battery solution was recommended to manage the load demand more efficiently. 

We specified:

• 1500 kVA generator adapted for offshore use with fire suppression system 
• Mid-size Battery Energy Storage system 300kVA / 422kWh (with alarms)
• 2000 kVA 690 V Transformer 60 Hz
• Smart solution with Scada system for their control room
• Aggreko Remote Monitoring and Aggreko Connect 

Space on-board the vessel was tight, so it was essential to deliver all the dimensions, weights and technical specifications as soon as possible. 

Reducing emissions, adding value - Our solution had to be smarter and more sustainable. Aggreko Remote Monitoring allowed us to monitor the health of our equipment from a central operation centre and remotely monitor it to ensure we delivered maximum efficiency, minimised emissions and fuel costs. While Aggreko Connect’s reporting feature provided Jumbo with access to all data to fully understand the load profile for future projects. 

Through our fast turnaround we restored essential power and peace of mind. Our solution successfully powered the on-board crane and crew accommodation, helping Jumbo to meet their project timelines. Through remote monitoring and analysis, we provided insightful data to help inform future projects – while further reducing fuel usage and emissions.
