Supporting sustainable progress for a new data centre

Client:A new Data Centre

Location:Dublin, Ireland

Sectors:Data centres

The challenge

Bridge the power gap with a reliable, sustainable solution

Our client was contracted to design and develop a new data centre in the capital of Ireland, Dublin. With no possible grid connection and a shortage of available power until their own gas turbines became fully functional, they challenged us to bridge the power gap. Our solution would have to be powerful to enable ongoing progress and flexible to fit into the available space.

There was also an added challenge. Ireland had adopted the European Union’s Energy Efficiency Directive, introducing a requirement to report on the energy performance and sustainability of data centres. By 2031, it is estimated that 28% of all Ireland’s electricity demand will come from data centres and other new large energy users. Our solution would have to be sustainable, satisfying a very strict emissions-compliant permit.
