The challenge
Keeping workers and state-of-the-art equipment cool
Network Rail’s signalling centres house state-of-the-art equipment that needs cool temperatures to work optimally. So when the chiller supplying air conditioning to one of its centres in the West Midlands failed, Network Rail quickly called us in to help.
Summer temperatures were also making working conditions uncomfortable for employees in the offices. Thankfully Network Rail’s five-year rental supplier agreement was already in place.

The solution
Critical chiller package with limited footprint
Time was of the essence, as the equipment needed to be kept cool to control the busy rail network. Office workers were also starting to overheat in the summer temperatures, so there was no time to lose.
Our engineers installed the chiller and canopy generator package following tight QHSE guidelines to ensure minimal disruption. There also wasn’t a lot of space on site so we installed our equipment at the back of the building, where it remained connected until the centre’s chiller was repaired and up and running again.

The impact
Business as usual for staff and equipment
Our cooling and power package ensured the signalling centre’s air conditioning plant could remain online while its own chiller was repaired. That meant business as usual for this critical site, which relied on air conditioning to keep the state-of-the-art equipment working optimally. Staff also enjoyed safe and comfortable working conditions in their offices.
Having a five-year rental supplier agreement in place saved time in an emergency.
"We had to work fast for this Network Rail job in order to keep the Signalling Centre on line and therefore the trains running".
