Three greener rentals for sustainable food manufacturing

69.2 million people. That’s the estimated population of the UK by 2030. A 3.2% rise from 2020. And as the population grows, so too do the demands on food manufacturers, who are presented with the task of upscaling production whilst striving towards environmental goals.

It sounds like a contradiction, doesn’t it? But it needn’t be.

Consider the notion of healthy swaps; the notion of trading foods with a high carbon footprint for those with a lower environmental impact. In this context, a consumer lowers their personal carbon footprint with minimal effort.

And it’s possible to apply this mindset to sustainable food production. But how…?

What is sustainable food production?

Sustainable food production refers to means of manufacturing food that limits environmental impact. For example, using more eco-friendly equipment in the manufacturing process.  And while that may sound like a complex - and potentially costly – task, the opposite can be true.

So, taking inspiration from the final stage of the food supply chain, we’ve compiled a brief list of healthy swaps of our own; helping food manufacturers lower their carbon footprint without sacrificing efficiency.

Stage V generators

Innovative and efficient, our stage V generators are the simplest and most effective way for food producers to lower their carbon footprint.

Designed with sustainability and performance in mind, our stage v generators cut down on harmful pollutants without compromising on efficiency.

HVO fuel

Swapping diesel for HVO drop-in fuel is the simplest method of minimising the use of fossil fuels in food manufacturing.

A hassle-free diesel replacement, HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) is a type of biodiesel that requires no special filter for use – it can be dropped right into your existing diesel generator.

Practically, this means that food manufacturers can instantly lower their carbon footprint without sacrificing performance.

Industrial chillers

Crucial to the food manufacturing process, industrial chillers represent a slight challenge to sustainable food production. Indeed, given that they can’t be removed from the process, it’s a logistical problem that many food manufacturers are grappling with.

But there is a solution. And it’s simple.

Our industrial chillers are environmentally friendly, using non-CFC refrigerants. The nature of hire chillers, also means that you can simply off hire when you no longer need additional power or cooling like during seasonal peaks or temperatures changes.

In addition, our pump chillers can be used for both heating and cooling; substantially reducing carbon emissions by limiting the amount of equipment on-site.

Sustainable food manufacturing is a challenge, but at Aggreko, we pride ourselves on rising to challenges. Find out more about our greener upgrades now.
