The Challenge

Powering th Goald Coast Commonwealth Games

An important part of our job in powering these events is ensuring that we leave no trace when they come to an end. That’s why the team will ensure each site is left just as it was originally found, until everything is demobilised in May.

Given the geographical scope of the event, and the fact that we’ve laid enough cable to cover the distance from Sydney to Canberra, this is no mean feat!

It’s with projects this extensive that our specialist remote monitoring system (ARM) comes in handy. ARM gathers and monitors vital information throughout the sites and ensures events can go off without a hitch.

Gold Coast 2018 has been a real privilege to be a part of. These events allow thousands of athletes to compete on an international stage, plus millions around the world to appreciate their talent. Although a lot of work goes into that two-week period of competition, our partnership with these events goes far beyond this, and we’re proud to have played our part at every stage.

The Solution

30 MW of our mobile, modular power and expertise as a solid foundation

From our previous experience working on international-scale events, we knew this needed precision and expertise - something we pride ourselves on. We were on location for designing and planning, six months before the Opening Ceremony. We were there each step of the way to ensure that every eventuality was covered.

From Cairns at the northern-most point of the region, to the Gold Coast in the south - and everything in between - we made sure every venue received the reliable power we're famed for.

The package that Aggreko put together for us responded to a strategic decision that GOLDOC took to involve the company that was going to be supplying all the temporary power, to be involved in the planning and design of that process as well. Aggreko responded in a very positive way to that opportunity. As a company and through their on-the-ground staff, Aggreko went above and beyond their remit to assist GOLDOC and ensure the success of the event. GOLDOC congratulates Aggreko on a job well done.
