Battery power as an alternative to a failed UPS
Client: Medicine manufacturer
Location: Italy
Sectors: Pharmaceuticals
The challenge
Failed backup power supply during blackout
An Italian company located in Milan, operating globally within the pharmaceutical industry approached Aggreko following a site-wide power failure. During this downtime, their uninterrupted power system (UPS) was found to be faulty, putting their data at risk. Once power was restored, the customer was without backup for their systems in the case of further blackouts. It was essential to find a quick solution to avoid any further costly failures.

The solution
A reliable 90 kVA battery to avoid future failures
To meet the customers’ requirements, our specialists proposed the use of a 90 kVA battery complete with 25 metres of cables. This was a first for the product in Italy, though we had complete confidence based on its performance in other regions. For the best result, additional research and testing was still necessary.
Various tests were carried out on the validity of the installation and the battery’s reaction times, all of which resulted in great success. To avoid further power complications, the customer requested a quick delivery time of 3-4 days for this compact installation. The speed of deployment from our experienced engineers exceeded all expectations.
Following data sampling through Aggreko Remote Monitoring (ARM) we could clearly see that during a main outage, the battery continued steady operation, alleviating all doubts about the safety of their data systems.
The result
Technical and administrative continuity
By providing a reliable and efficient solution, we protected the IT data systems of the production facility, including any computers, servers, network systems, and communication equipment.
With clear success shown by our remote monitoring, we provided the customer peace of mind that their systems are reliably powered. This application has been a testament to our battery range as we expand the product as an alternative to large UPS units that are harder to find.
