Keltbray is a construction engineering specialist, recognised for its efforts in reducing the carbon emissions on its projects. They approached Aggreko for support with power provision due to our capability of monitoring equipment remotely. After consultation our expert proposed Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to support Keltbray’s overall decarbonisation strategy.

The solution

Integrating battery technology to increase sustainability and efficiency

We began by identifying and rectifying generator oversizing, with some sites running at less than 30% load, causing inefficiencies. During our rightsizing, our sector expert introduced Keltbray to BESS solutions, which they later utilised in 12 projects, spanning six different counties. This included a wide array of developments such as the construction of the iconic East London neighbourhood at Silvertown Keys, maintenance of a cargo shed at Heathrow Airport, new flood defences for Sheffield City Council, a new housing development for a leading UK housebuilder, and a large infrastructure project concerning the A30.

In just 12 months, Keltbray went from using no batteries, to them accounting for at least 25% of their temporary power procurement. The construction specialists grew confident in battery storage technology, based on the performance of a wide variety of projects and sites, and the projected impact on their decarbonisation strategy.

The result

Reduced carbon emissions & fuel cost savings

As part of our commitment to helping Keltbray achieve their Net Zero goals, we used our remote monitoring system to analyse data from the 12 projects throughout the year. Compared with traditional generator-only running costs, we were able to evaluate a staggering reduction of over 200 tonnes of carbon using our battery generator hybrid solution. This was the result of saving over 75,000 litres of fuel, which equated to over £100,000 in fuel costs.
