Client:Pharmaceutical fine chemical manufacturer
Location:Ireland
Sectors:Pharmaceuticals
The challenge
Power for pharmaceutical manufacturer limited by grid capacity
Our customer is a leading science & technology company who wanted to expand its manufacturing capabilities in Ireland by building a new manufacturing facility.
However, the Ireland distribution network operator informed our customer during the planning application process that the full mains supply for this new site would be several years away.
This delay in production would lead to hundreds of millions of Euros per annum in lost revenue & profits for the company.
We proposed using our gas generators to supplement the existing supply, giving them the flexibility to scale up or down depending on the site’s needs over the coming years.

The solution
1.4 MW electricity powered from onsite gas to address grid constraints
Very early on in the project discussions, Aggreko assembled a professional major projects team to instil confidence in all parties involved in the project. Virtual meetings took place every week over an 18-month period to move this project from opportunity to order. We assured the factory that choosing Aggreko means there would be no delays in their project milestones. Our bridging gap power solution incorporated:
- 1 x gas generator 1.43 MWe
- 1 x 6.3 MVA 415/20kV transformer
- Gas pressure control skid
- Sound attenuation panel system
- LV cabling
