What does "Behind-the-Meter" mean?
Behind-the-Meter (BtM) refers to electricity supply from an Aggreko IPP Solutions owned generator located within or close to the customers site connected directly using private wire to the customer, independent of grid connected power supply. This renewable supply is sold to the customer via a Power Purchase Agreement, a direct contractual agreement between the customer and Aggreko IPP Solutions. BtM solutions are made up of energy sources including solar, batteries, CHP and wind power and are often paired with off-site FoM solutions to meet more of a customers power requirements.

Commercial solar and battery storage
Solar is one of the best sustainable energy sources and is a popular choice for customers to lower power costs and reduce their carbon footprint.
A Behind-the-Meter solution allows customers with flexibility to generate electricity on-site or near site by utilising their land and roof-tops for solar panels as well as available nearby land.
Including battery storage for customers enables them to store power for when it’s needed saving further costs.
A sound business case - Behind-the-Meter solution
- Non-Commodity Charges (NCCs) make up to 40% - 60% of the grid sourced power price

- NCCs increased from £5.80/MWh in 2004 to over £75/MWh in 2024
- In the UK most NCCs are avoided when power is delivered via private wire BtM solutions
- Fixed PPA price subject only to inflation or 2% - 3% annual escalator rate
- BtM solutions can typically avoid £50 - £70/MWh for large power users (LPUs)
