The Challenge

Faster food cooling with low emissions

The customer wanted to speed up the cooling time of food in their warehouse so they could get it to market faster and boost profitability.

They designed a new process that would speed up cooling without impacting the product’s quality. This new approach required extra chiller equipment – but the customer quickly realized that this new equipment would need an extra boost of power. To confirm that the new process would work before making any investment, they asked Aggreko to support a test project with temporary chillers and power.

They needed a solution that would not only provide all the required energy but also deliver it in the most environmentally friendly way possible so that they could continue to minimize their carbon footprint. This was to ensure they would meet both their own targets, as well as the stringent targets stipulated by the local regulatory authority.

The Solution

Additional chilling equipment powered by a Tier 4 Final generator with full remote monitoring

To meet the power and emissions requirements, Aggreko designed and installed a temporary solution including a chiller, food-grade heat exchanger, and Tier 4 Final generator. We also provided fuel cells and regular fuel delivery to the 24/7 site.

We set up Aggreko’s Remote Monitoring (ARM) service to ensure the equipment was operating efficiently and correctly, and to provide the customer with data on their power usage. This allowed them to record exactly how much power they were using and emissions they were generating, as well as report to the local authorities to show they were complying with regulations.

The Impact

Increased profitability, reduced emissions, and crucial sustainability data

The test project supported by Aggreko’s equipment, proved that the new process would enable the customer to get products to market much faster and increase their profitability.

By using our Tier 4 Final generator, we reduced emissions by 95% compared with other generators, so the customer was able to stay on track with their sustainability goals and meet all the strict local authority environmental regulations.

All the equipment was monitored 24/7 by ARM and all alerts were handled and resolved before they had any impact on production. The data collected by ARM was sent to the customer so they could demonstrate their environmental credentials to both consumers and local authorities alike.
