Frequently asked questions

industrial electrical switchgear
01

Switchgear is essential for controlling the flow of power on your site and protecting your equipment from being damaged by a sudden electrical fault.

Switchgear is made up of a number of different components, including fuses, switches, and circuit breakers.

02

Circuit breakers are one of the most common components of switchgear, interrupting the flow of power in the event of an electrical fault and preventing the fault from damaging the rest of your equipment. But switchgear also includes several other components, including switches, relays, capacitors, and fuses.

03

Switchgear can be divided into three types: fused, manual, and automatic.

Manual switchgear controls, protects, and isolates your electrical equipment, carefully managing the flow of power in the event of an electrical fault in order to protect the rest of your equipment from being damaged.

Automatic switchgear – also called an “automatic transfer switch” or ATS – works alongside manual switchgear. If the power goes down, an ATS automatically starts up a generator, ensuring that your site has access to uninterrupted energy.

Fused switchgear – also called a “fused disconnect switch” – is made up of a fuse and a switch. The switch allows you to manually turn off your power. In the event of an electrical fault, the fuse will burn out and automatically shut down your energy circuit.

04

Standard switchgear serves three main functions: It protects your people and the rest of your equipment from being harmed or damaged if an electrical fault occurs. It isolates your equipment from your energy source (either a generator or the grid). Finally, it controls the flow of energy through your site, reducing or increasing the amount of energy that reaches your machines to maximize safety and efficiency.

05

Our switchgear is UL-approved – meaning that it has been tested and certified by Underwriters Laboratories. This means that you can easily implement our solutions without requiring approval from a governing body to comply with National Electrical Code® (NEC®) Section 90.7 “Examination of Equipment for Safety.”

This makes implementing our temporary switchgear faster, more cost-effective, and more efficient.

06

We provide a wide range of switchgear for industrial applications, with solutions that can support everything from the smallest projects to large-scale industrial control rooms. Our low-voltage (ATS) switchgear ranges from 208 V to 600 V, and our medium-voltage (fused) switchgear ranges from 5 kV to 38 kV.
