A national facilities management provider faced an urgent electrical failure at a 26-story mixed-use high-rise serving restaurants, retail spaces, and more than 200 residential units. A fault in a 480V transformer disrupted power to two major switchgear lineups, immediately threatening tenant operations and resident safety. The outage was initially expected to last only a few days, but as repair work progressed, it became clear a secondary underground 208V transformer above the failed unit also needed to be taken offline. This increased the risk of extended outages, business closures, and potential resident relocation, putting the customer’s reputation and operational continuity on the line.
Aggreko engineers and technical experts mobilized quickly, designing and deploying a 3 MW temporary power solution using two 1.5 MW diesel generators to support both 1600A and 2000A 480V switchgear, operational in under five hours from approval. Leveraging real-time load data from Aggreko Remote Monitoring and local utility insights, the team optimized the setup to right-size capacity while maintaining reliability. One 1.5 MW generator supported the 480V service, delivering approximately 1000A across both switchgear lineups, while a second 1.5 MW generator paired with a transformer and distribution supported the 208V service with roughly 1600A. This adaptable configuration provided the flexibility and efficiency needed to maintain uninterrupted service during repairs.
Restaurants, retail tenants, and residents remained fully operational, while proactive monitoring enabled timely adjustments that saved time, reduced risk, and avoided unnecessary costs. Aggreko’s data-driven, expert-led approach delivered not just reliable power but a streamlined, intelligent solution, demonstrating the value of a fully integrated response on a high-stakes project.
