Frequently Asked Questions
A virtual pipeline substitutes for a physical pipeline. Gas that would typically be conveyed through a conventional pipeline is instead transported as LNG to the point of use by sea, rail, or road. Where no gas pipeline or grid connection exists, the LNG or CNG virtual pipeline enables using natural gas for power generation using our modular generators.
CNG is compressed natural gas, which is methane compressed to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure. LNG is a liquefied natural gas, which is still composed of methane but undergoes a much more complex cryogenic liquefaction process.
The varying states of these two natural gasses make each more appropriate for specific applications:
- CNG is more straightforward to produce and can be created at individual fueling stations to be easily dispensed without special storage equipment.
- LNG is an excellent way to transport large volumes of natural gas over great distances where pipelines don’t exist. It must be housed in special cryogenic storage facilities and tanks, resulting in higher production costs.
