The Challenge

A dairy processing plant needed urgent cooling but had no spare power capacity or time for upgrades

A large dairy processing plant in rural Ohio urgently needed additional process and comfort cooling during peak production. However, the site’s existing electrical infrastructure had no spare capacity to support new chillers, and utility upgrades would take months to complete. The facility required an immediate and reliable solution to deliver the necessary cooling while avoiding costly downtime or permanent modifications. The challenge was to balance short-term production needs with a long-term plan for efficiency and compliance, all without disrupting daily operations.

The Solution

Production remained online with lower costs, reduced emissions, and no infrastructure changes

Aggreko designed a two-phase solution to meet both urgent and future needs:

  • Phase 1: A 230-ton air-cooled chiller was installed and powered by a temporary 350kW natural gas generator, providing instant cooling capacity and preventing any interruption to production.
  • Phase 2: Once stabilized, Aggreko transitioned the power source to our natural gas generator connected to the facility’s existing gas line. This hybrid approach delivered a reliable, lower-emission, semi-permanent system that met operational demands, without requiring utility upgrades or infrastructure changes.
