On-set climate control for a top TV show
Client: Universal Television
Location: Yonkers, New York, USA

The Challenge
Year-round temperature control without disturbing the set
Like most TV and movie sets, this one for “New Amsterdam” was set up in a big open warehouse with few ways to heat or cool the space. The production team needed a fast, reliable way to control the temperature in summer and winter, but without getting in the way or creating noise that would be picked up during recording.
Key Facts
The Solution
A fast, flexible system, adapted to the season
Our team of technical experts built a chiller and air handler system that would kick into action at lightning speed to get the space to its target temperature – and switched on and off again between each shoot. Two air handlers were up on the balcony, out of the way, while the third was on wheels and could be moved to wherever it was needed.
The Impact
A low cost, highly effective system for the entire filming schedule
Our system worked year round, keeping the on-set temperature at perfect levels in every season. Even better, our smart setup means that during summer the system pumped out cold air, but during the winter the same ducts and pipes could be easily reattached to a CHU for heat, saving time, hassle and money.
Not only that, we also guided the production team towards indirect burners, slashing their fuel budget in half.
