Fixed thermal plants Emergency power contract

The Challenge

To supply reliable emergency power to cover demand across the country

During this period, some regions in the interior of the country started increasing their power consumption. However, the lack of investment from previous years due to a long-lasting tariff freeze, especially in the distribution and transmission infrastructure, began to be reflected in the poor quality of the energy that these provinces were receiving.

Eventually, the power supply for the Buenos Aires metropolitan area started experiencing the same situation that had been affecting the provinces. Frustration in the population led to a social unrest with protests becoming more and more active, leading to road blocks, riots and other actions from those demanding to be provided with a safe and reliable service.

To add additional power to the interconnection system, ENARSA needed to partner with experienced companies to install fixed temporary thermal plants throughout the country.

KEY FACTS
  • 194 MW of reliable diesel power
  • 13 fixed thermal plants located in 7 provinces
  • 270 MW mobile diesel generators ready to be deployed anywhere

The Solution

Install temporary plants to produce 194 MW of energy for the Interconnection System (SADI)

Diesel generators were deployed in different locations to produce a total of 193.7 MW of energy for the interconnection system. All the plants were managed, maintained and operated on-site and off-site by Aggreko’s highly trained technical team. Later, Aggreko added a new service to its solution: Remote Monitoring of the operations. It was carried out 24 hours a day by Aggreko’s COA (Argentina Operations Center) to provide the customer with the information needed to improve the operation by:

  • Reducing operational costs
  • Performing statistical analysis to prevent failures
  • Managing fuel logistics

The remote monitoring service was eventually updated, to include the remote operation of the plants helping reduce operational costs even further by not needing on-site technicians 24/7. The flexibility and rapid response to quickly increase or decrease the capacity and energy output based on customer’s needs, local and immediate availability of our equipment, the experience we have in dealing with this type of emergency solutions, and a highly trained and qualified technical team are key differentiators for Aggreko.

The Aggreko difference

Flexibility, availability, experience, remote monitoring service and highly trained personnel are always present in our projects to deliver the best results

The Impact

Turn-key solutions installed in 7 provinces guaranteeing zero power shortages

For over 12 years Aggreko partnered with ENARSA first and now CAMMESA to provide safe and reliable power to the Argentine Interconnection System when needed. The city of Buenos Aires and the provinces could thrive with constant and reliable power whenever is needed, helping boost the country´s economy and the wellbeing of the people.
