Power for artificial lifts and ESPs

Power for artificial lifts and ESPs

When it comes to powering Artificial lifts we have extensive experience in supporting a variety of applications especially Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs)

The use of single diesel generators is a well-established solution for remote locations. Operators with ESPs on low producing wells will match a single generator and accept that a loss of power equals a loss of production and potential revenue.

For more critical operations such as high producing wells, an ESP is supported by a pair of synchronized generators either operating on a load sharing basis, or a lead/standby with an auto change over panel. Where either generator is selected to cover the peak load or both sets on shared basis, this light operational mode often leads to a higher rate of equipment failure, higher operational costs including fuel consumption and can be much more difficult in general to integrate new technologies.

For high capacity ESPs without a Variable Speed Drive (VSD), we can deploy a load on demand technique where we connect multiple generators to handle the initial starting load peak – this delivers 100% reliability - as well as being highly fuel efficient it delivers cost savings.

From single or dual inefficient generators to an integration reliable solution

Aggreko can provide individual gensets running on multiple fuel types including diesel and various gas types. We also have vast experience in an alternative approach which is to fully engineer a centralized power solution in the form of a microgrid with power distributed out to the wells either on diesel or gas.

While our individual generators are extremely reliable even in harsh conditions, hot or cold, our microgrid solutions reduce the overall redundancy required and offer a host of additional benefits including:

  • Reduce number of generators needed and overall cost
  • Achieve greater fuel efficiency by running generators at optimum performance
  • Achieve better generator reliability as sets are no longer operating on a light inefficient load
  • Easier fuel management from a centralized fuel point
  • More practical to integrate new technologies such as incorporating energy storage
